Croseo i’r Blwyddyn 1/2 – Welcome to Year 1/2!
Welcome back to a busy and exciting term in Year 1/2.
Our Big Question this half term is ‘What makes a house a home?'
We are looking forward to beginning our new topic, 'Brilliant Builders', and exploring our big question: What makes a house a home? The children will have opportunities to ask questions, share their ideas and learn about homes, buildings and the people who help to create them.
All planned activities will help the children to develop new skills and work towards the Four Purposes. The children will also be encouraged to work independently to complete missions and challenges linked to our topic.
Our Literacy lessons this half term will focus on Recount Writing, while our daily Monster Phonics sessions will support the development of reading, spelling and writing skills. In Maths, we will continue to follow the White Rose scheme with a focus on place value while developing fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills.
As always, we will be planning a range of exciting and engaging activities across all six Areas of Learning and Experience. We are looking forward to a fun and busy half term!
What to expect when I am in Year 1/2:
- Become more independent.
- Use Literacy, Numeracy and Digital skills with more confidence.
- Learn new skills and participate in a wide range of activities.
- Make lots of wonderful memories and most importantly have fun!
How you can help your child in Year 1/2:
- Encourage your child to become more independent where possible.
- Take an active role in your child’s education. (There are some useful website links and documents at the end of this page).
- Share important information about your child with school e.g. medication, any changes that may affect their well-being.
We actively encourage an open door policy whereupon we are happy to discuss any questions or issues that may arise throughout the school year. We only ask that you try to do this at the end of the day so that we can give you the time you deserve. By working together I am sure that we will make your child's time in the Dragonflies class a very productive and happy one!
