What's on this term?

🌿 Autumn Term 1 Topic – Rainforests 🌿

We are very excited to begin our new topic all about Rainforests! Over the next half term, we will be exploring the fascinating world of tropical rainforests and finding out about the amazing plants, animals and people that live there.

We will be learning about rainforest layers, animal and plant adaptations, climate and rainfall, biodiversity and food chains. We will also investigate why rainforests are so important and explore the causes and effects of deforestation, before thinking about ways we can help to protect these incredible environments.

We will also be learning about Alfred Russel Wallace, a Welsh naturalist and explorer who travelled to the Amazon rainforest and studied the amazing variety of wildlife he encountered.

As part of our topic, we are looking forward to a WOW day at Plantasia Tropical Zoo in Swansea, where the children will have the opportunity to see rainforest plants and animals up close and develop their knowledge through hands-on experiences.

📚 Literacy

In Literacy, we will be developing our reading, vocabulary, speaking and writing skills through our rainforest topic. We will build up a range of descriptive writing techniques and use our knowledge of the rainforest to eventually write our own rainforest-based story.

🔢 Maths

In Maths, we will begin by focusing on place value, developing our understanding of numbers and the value of each digit. We will then move on to addition and subtraction, developing our calculation skills and applying them to a range of problems.

We are looking forward to an exciting half term full of exploration, discovery and learning! 🌴🐒🦋🌧️
